Question
How do I download fonts so that they show up when I activate TYPE in Illustrator?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Karen.

I'd really need to know if you're on a Mac or a PC.

But it's pretty simple for both - drag and drop, really.

-On a PC, download the TrueType or PostScript font to your machine; I always download to the desktop so I can find the new files quickly

-Extract the file (usually this is automatic when downloading) but you may need to double click it if you only see an archive or stuffit file instead of a new folder containing the new font.

-Find the .ttf file (an icon with a T on it) in the new folder that was created when you extracted the file

-Drag that .ttf file  to the FONTS directory in your WINDOWS directory.

That's all.  Sometimes you need to restart Illustrator.

On a Mac,

1.   Download the fonts to your machine. TrueType fonts will have one file while PostScript (or Type 1) fonts will have both a printer and screen font (2 files).

2. Drag the files to the System Folder. Click OK when prompted.

Hope this helps

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
