Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator into PS

Question
I have a illustrator circle shape brought into a 300dpi PhotoShop work space.
I have duped the layers and used PhotoShop's masking tool to hide portions
of the circles from other circle below. My question is: Will the smooth circle
shape have a raster step look on press? The local canon color printer doesn't
show any problems, but I am concerned.

Answer
Hi Dave!

As long as you pasted as pixels into a 300dpi image, and didn't enlarge the circle once it was pasted, you should be fine.

Zoom in to 300%. If it looks pretty smooth there, it will look smooth on press.

I say this assuming your print job is a standard press job at a normal final size... you'll see pixels but they should be anti-aliased... making a smoother edge.

If you'd like to send me the PhotoShop document (or a small piece of it, to save e-mail space), that'd be great.

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
