Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator to Photoshop - Pasting paths

Question
Working on P4, 3.2GHz, w/1.3Gig Mem, using network to store files -- I'm attempting to copy paths from Illustrator (10) to Photoshop (7) to make a pre-press file to send to a printer and I get that lovely "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. The path does not exist."

Now, I get this error even if I'm not copying files over. If I simply ALT+Tab to Photoshop from Illustrator to work on something else, I get the same error. I've done some initial troubleshooting, including uninstalling both programs, defragging, and reinstalling. I then opened a blank doc in Illustrator and then opened Photoshop. I worked in Photoshop for a bit, then went back to Illustrator and drew a simple box - nothing. Minute I ALT+Tab, or go to my taskbar and select Photoshop - error.

Any thoughts. First time I've seen this and well, I've been trying to get a work around for well over 3 months now. Been using Illustrator since it was 6 - weird for this problem to arise now.

Mark

Answer
Hey Mark,

Unfortunately, I am nowhere near my own computer right now but I think I know the answer to your question.

In Illustrator Preferences, there is a setting under one of the categories that changes the clipboard from PDF to something else, maybe AICB???

Whichever one it's set at, change it to the other. I'd THINK it should be set to PDF.

Also - just a thought.  Make sure that you are NOT running Adobe Acrobat in the background at the same time.  I know MY version(s) cannot all handle running together sometimes.

And let me know if that works.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
