Question
Thanks for being available! I have a layered file that was designed in Illustrator and want to convert it in Photoshop ( CS2 ). I have tried dragging each layer over into a blank photoshop file and dragging all of the files together and no luck. Any suggestions ?

Answer
Hi Harry,

The way I do it when I want to preserve the layers is I print to (or save) a PDF with maximum quality (no compression) for each layer. All PDFs must have the same page dimensions. I then open each PDF in PhotoShop, rasterizing to the resolution I need. I then select the entirety of the Layer 2 PDF and paste it into the Layer 1 PDF, etcetera.

I hope this helps!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
