Question
I have a 4 color file in Illustrator. I need to place a tennis racquet image from Photoshop. I outlined it in Photoshop, saved the clipping path, saved it as an eps. When I place it on my Illustrator file, the clipping path doesn't knock out, so the background shows through. How do I place the image with the clipping path, so the background shows through?
Thank You

Answer
Hi Tracie!

I'll be that the clipping path isn't a closed path. If it's open or if it has some other oddity about it, it won't act correctly.

And just to verify, you are placing the EPS not pasting it.

You sound like you know what you're doing. If you'd like me to take a look at that PhotoShop EPS file, go ahead and send it to AmyLynPace@yahoo.com. I've had the same problem.

If it's bigger than 10 MB, please make it a 72 dpi image and save as EPS... the clipping path will still be in tact.

Look forward to seeing the file!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
