Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator or Photoshop?
Expert: Amy - 7/24/2006
QuestionThanks for the reply!
See, I'm using Illustrator right now (and using the "Save for Web" command) but it's creating a white outline in my image.
This is my website (
http://www.southbeachgroup.com/students) and if you see the south beach logo you'll see that it looks a little blurry around the edges. I thought that the matte command might help but it looked even worse.
Do you think you would happen to know what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!
Allie

Hi,
I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I've always been taught that in order to create banners or web logos Adobe Photoshop is the way to go and for print you use Illustrator.
Is that true?
Thank you!

Hi Allie,
I would agree with that. Some people would not.
You can create web stuff in Illustrator but it's easier to use PhotoShop (for me anyway). Some people are really good at using Illustrator to create their web graphics. PhotoShop effects like gaussian blur and some artistic effects are available in Illustrator - that helps. I have created some web graphics in Illustrator and used the Save for Web command to export but when I'm doing a whole web page layout, I prefer PhotoShop.
And you can actually create print stuff in PhotoShop if you want to tick off the printer... =) Illustrator is the preferred tool. It creates PS output that's better for print when you're creating layouts that include text (brochures, etc.). But I've seen a business card set up entirely in PhotoShop. The resolution was very high to eliminate bitmapped edges. It would have been a lot easier to set it up in Illustrator.
The exception for print is photos. You really need both apps. You want to set up any photos for print in PhotoShop to take advantage of all the color balancing and imaging tools. Then you can place them in Illustrator to output your file for print.
Hope this helps.

AnswerOoh. Yeah. White line not good. I have struggled with that very issue.
Can you send it to me and I'll see if I can get a better result using Illustrator?
Send it to AmyLynPace @ yahoo.com (remove the spaces).
If it contains a font, could you convert it to outlines first? I don't know that I have that one. It looks familiar but....
And since I use an older version, if you use CS, you'll need to Export as Legacy version 9 for me. GO to File> Export and select Legacy Illustrator and then the version in the resulting dialog box.
Look forward to it!
