Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator Workspace...

Question
I am working with CS2 on Windows XP  - I open up multiple projects (so I can drag/drop into other projects; When I click on the top portion  of the projects (above the ruler) so I can move it around the workspace it disappears - same with any of the tools. Now if I go to WINDOW>CASCADE(TILE, ARRANGE ICONS) I can view the project again, but if I go to move it - you guessed it, it disappears. So you can see my frustration.

It was working fine a couple of days ago, so I am assuming it is a setting - but I cannot find it.

I uninstalled/reinstalled (and deleted the files numerous times with no avail. Any ideas?????

Answer
Hi Jason,

I can't think of what setting that might be... unless it's something in XP. I have XP, though, and I can't think of an auto-hide feature that's built-in.

Even though you reinstalled, you need to delete the prefs file.
1 - QUIT AI
2 - Locate and delete the AIprefs file on your Windows machine - there may be hidden files and folders in the path to this document, so when you search, include hidden files and folders.

Adobe will re-create this file upon next launch of AI but if you prefer, you can simply move the AIprefs file to the desktop instead. That way, if this doesn't fix the problem, you can Quit AI, move the original file back and your preferences will still be in tact when you next start AI.

3 - RE-LAUNCH AI.

4 - Let me know if it worked at AmyLynPace@yahoo.com

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
