I have found a picture of a logo (made in Illustrator) that I would like to adopt some features from.  They have text and shapes with borders (strokes).  The borders flow round the text and the shapes like they are merged or melded together.  I hope this is clear what I mean.  I can send a picture if this would help.[If so tell me how to send it to you - I have it as a pdf]

How can this effect be attained?

Any ideas?  Answers gratefully received.
