Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator file to Corel Draw

Question
Hi,
I am a Mac Adobe Illustrator v. 10 user, and I'm trying to give a file to a person using CorelDraw v. 9 (I think).  It is totally vector artwork, no placed images, very simple.  I've sent him the file three times, saved as an .eps even down to v. 5 Illustrator, zipped, and he can open the file but it is EMPTY when he does...can you help me?  I'm wondering if I need to change settings when I save, or what can I do?
THanks,
Marianne

Answer
Hmm.

If he is using a PC, try this:

Save your file as a native illustrator file (.ai) version 7 with a pc preview (.ai) instead of .eps

Then once saved, add ".eps" to the file name as it resides on your desktop.

That's a trick I read online.

Other things to examine:

Make sure the file is really empty (not just that the fills and strokes have disappeared, making the document appear empty).

Expand all effects
Flatten all transparencies (an absolute must)
Outline all fonts
Unlock all objects
Unhide all objects
Make sure there are no open paths in your artwork (try this one last if at all, it's impossible in my opinion).
Another option is exporting as a wmf file.  If he's on a PC.

Try those things and let me know - we'll go from there, all right????

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
