Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator save as

Question
Hi Amy,

Using Illustrator 9 on a PC. Occasionally, after editing a file, it will not save; an error message appears "ID-45" that says that the file cannot be saved because it is locked. However, checking the file in Windows Explorer shows that the file is not read only.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie,

This might be too simple, but I think it has something to do with the naming of the file and your Windows directory structure.

Try changing the name of the file...in other words, do a SAVE AS and give the file a nice simple new name, no spaces, no chars other than letters and digits. Try saving to a different folder, too.

Or you could even close the file and change its name to something simple and short... or move it?

Please let me know what happens.  Are you on WinNT by any chance?

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
