Hi Amy

First, I just want to say thank you for all your help, i have asked you several questions and you have been a lot of help.  I am learning this Illustrator program on my own coming from a Mac and Freehand and sometimes it is very difficult to figure out some of these techniques.  

But anyway back to the joining text thing.  I didn't really get the effect that I wanted.  When I did the Clipping Mask the flag turned all white along with most of the text.  I want the flag to stay intact as in red, white & blue and my text to be red on the white stripe and white on the red stripe.  Can that be done? Are did I miss something? Thanks again, Karen

Hmmm...

I can't think of an "effect" in Illustrator that does that. But maybe I don't know what you really want? Why don't you send me the file and I'll play around with it.

I will need you to save it as Legacy version 9.0.  I think you said you have CS, so to do that, you may need to Export the file to Legacy AI v 9.0
