Adobe Illustrator/Line weight

Question
Hi Amy,
I use Illustrator CS and have a line drawing that I would like to scale without changing the line weight.  Do you know what I need to convert the line to?
Thank you and I appreciate your help.
Cheers, Cindianne.

Answer
Hi Cindianne!

Is the line drawing already made up of Adobe Illustrator paths? If it is, select all, then double click on the scale tool in the tool palette. A dialog box will pop up. Enter the amount you want to scale by and UNCHECK the option at the bottom to scale stroke weight!

If the line drawing is an imported image, you'd have to somehow convert it to paths first. I don't believe CS had Live Trace... You'd need to trace it by hand in that case.

I hope this helps!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
