Expert: Amy - 12/9/2004
QuestionHi Any,
Tanks a lot,
That worked out well , with the page layout. But when i am trying to print the pages they are coming out all on the one page. For example 9 small pages on 1 A4 size. I tried to change some settings but it prints out the same. Any help would be great.
Tanks again for you help before.
AnswerWell, Barry,
If the pages are smaller than the smallest paper size listed for your printer in Print Setup, then you'll need to do some creative layout work using Page Setup, Document Setup and Guides...
Here's how I created a 10-page 4" x 4" document on 10 pages.
First, in Document Setup, I create a document with an artboard that's 5" tall and 50" wide. I check the tile imageable areas button here as well.
Next, in Print Setup, I select a Paper Size that is close to but larger than my 4" x 4" desired page, because my printer doesn't have a 4 x 4 size, do any? My printer is an HP photo printer. One of the paper sizes available to me in Print Setup is 5" x 8", so I select that one and make sure it is in the Portrait orientation.
Now I use the Page Tool (under hand/measure tools) to position the page boundaries nicely/evenly on the artboard, so that all 10 show in full, except that the bottom 3" or so of each is cut off. That doesn't matter, since my desired print area is only 4" x 4".
Now I create a rectangle using the rectangle tool that's 4" x 4" and place it within the first page boundaries.
Then I duplicate that rectangle 9 more times and distribute them, one per page boundary area.
Next I select all 10 rectangles, choose View > Guides > Make Guides from the top menu and Voila... 10 little page guides on 10 pages that the printer will recognize as pages.
Hope you can follow these instructions!
