Question
Any idea why Illustrator 9 on mac OS X does not complain, but 10 does?

Hi James,

Are you using a font management program?  If not, the "pointer" to the font may have gotten lost.  Sometimes the computer gets confused when upgrading programs, especially from AI 9 to 10 and OS9 to OSX, but a good font manager helps prevent issues like this.  It may just be a matter of reloading the font.
