Adobe Illustrator/Persistent setting

Question
This is a question for Adobe 8 (8.1) on a PC.  New enthusiastic user.

I can't seem to set or find the Persistent setting for Color Swatch library.  I manage to load my custom colors from former files by using Windows> Other Library...then selecting the colors and clicking Add Swatches....then according to the manuals I've read I'm supposed to be able to click Persistent to keep this Swatch Palette for all future files.  But where is Persistent located?.  I've tried the black triangle menu....No..not there.  Thanks very much for your help. I've learned so much just reading all your generously answered questions. E

Answer
HI E...

I believe the persistent setting is only valid for Swatch libraries like the Pantone or Toyo inks.

If you open one of those (Window > Swatch Libraries > Pantone etc), you'll find the persistent option in the flyout menu.

One idea for you is to make a document that has all the colors you need and save it so you can open it when you need it.  That's what I do with v9 for one of my clients.  I have a matrix of my colors that I copy and paste from a document I made years ago.

I hope this helps end your frustration a little...

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
