Adobe Illustrator/Printing

Question
HI Amy! Quick question. I have a HUGE file, due to my background picture in Illustrator and I was wondering how I can make the file smaller so I can print it. I've already tried Exporting the file into a JPEG but it wont lay out on the page right. Please help me!

Answer
Hi Kellie,

Save the image as a PDF, adding some compression to the image. I don't know what version you've got, and the instructions for changing the compression on a PDF output are different for different versions. Generally, I would go with "Maximum Quality" for the images and if that's too big, change to "High Quality."

Let me know if you need help figuring out where or how to change the compression options.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
