Question
QUESTION: Hi.
I am trying to print best quality from Illustrator CS. As there is no option to change the print settings in illustrators default print dialog box, it is necessary to go through to the 'printer' box.
When i select all the settings and press 'print', the document seems to go through to the printer but then always says 'printing of jobs is stopped'. This does not happen when printing basic quality.
Is this because of conflict with the dialog boxes? Is there any way to make them work together? I am printing just using a desktop injet (epson dx4200) and the print quality on basic is not good enough.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Print quality is great out of photoshop CS on best quality but i can't get back to back pages to register : (

ANSWER: Hi Lynsey,

I think the conflict may be a wrestling match about who's rasterizing to your inkjet... AI or the Epson driver. Try taking care of this by forcing Illustrator to send a rasterized image to the printer: Check the Bitmap printing option when printing, you can still use the Epson settings dialog to choose your quality mode.

Let me know if that worked?

QUESTION:
Thank you for your reply.
The print as bitmap box is already checked unfortunately (in fact, there doesn't seem to be an option to uncheck it!)
document raster seetings are also set to 300dpi, but the dialog boxes still seem to be conflicting...

Answer
There must be conflict between the Epson dialog box and Illustrator. I don't have access to the adobe forums right now, but you might want to look there and see if this has been reported by other Epson users and if they discovered the solution.

In the meantime, If you have already explored unchecking every setting in the Epson dialog that may affect quality (Postscript levels, etc.) to no avail, you might want to save this as a PDF, open it in Acrobat, and print from there?

What do you think?
