Adobe Illustrator/Printing

Question
Hi,
I am really sorry to be bothering you, but I am having a major printing problem.
To make a long story short...

I'm using illustrator 11 creating basically advertising pages. I have finished all my pages and sent them to the printing place, and they have told me some of my Text isn't working correctly. Like maybe the font's werent all embedded. Well I think I might have figured out what he was talking about. Could it be the text that i've put effects on? Like warped them or distorted the text? But what I dont understand is why would that be? Illustrator is a graphic and text program for press printing correct?

If you could help me in any way .. that would be so greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Becky,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.  There could be a couple reasons they're having problems with your text.  It could be PC to Mac or Mac to PC issue with fonts. Or it could be that they don't have the correct font.  Sometimes they may not have the same plug in filters.  Any of these would cause the problem you describe.
The simple thing to do is send a PDF or "create outlines" with the type.  Creating outlines changes the type to objects so you wouldn't be able to make corrections in spelling or edit the content so make sure you save as a different version.
This should take care of the problem.
And yes, Illustrator is an industry standard program.  Some people use Quark also but mainly for multi page brochures and catalogs.
I hope this helped.

Thank you,

Tom
