Quark is great for all types of graphic design materials including catalogs, magazines, brochures, business cards, mailers, etc.

Yes, it's used in print shops quite frequently.

But people also use InDesign, so print shops often accept InDesign documents, too. Most designers I know prefer Quark because InDesign is relatively new and will take a while to gain a large user base.
