Adobe Illustrator/Rounded corners on a rectangle

Question
Hi,

Is there an easy way to round only two corners on a rectangle. Using convert to shape always rounds all four. I'm using Illustrator CS2.

At the moment I use a combination of overlapping two objects or the appropriate pathfinder tool, which is always a bit of a faff.

Thanks
Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

I'd join a rounded rectangle portion to a square rectangle portion.

Make a regular rectangle (for purposes of this example, picture a rectangle situated horizontally much like a brick.)

Copy rectangle.
Filter > stylize > Round Corners.
Use Direct Select tool to click on and delete the segments and anchor points that make up the left side of the rectangle. When you're done, most of the top and bottom should remain.

Then lock what's left. Ctrl+2

Paste in Front (Ctrl+F)

Use Direct Select Tool to delete the right end and top and bottom of this new rectangle. All that will remain of this one after delete is one short side on the right.

Unlock all. Ctrl + Alt + 2

Using Direct Select Tool, grab top anchor point of this short edge and top right anchor point of rounded portion and join (Ctrl + J) them together. Repeat for bottom.

If you need to get rid of any extraneous anchor points, use the remove anchor point tool.

Hope this helped!
