Adobe Illustrator/Scaling not working correctly (shit + click)

Question
Hi Amy,
I'm on a Mac using Illustrator CS2.
Whenever I try to rescale an object proportionally using the shift key it does
not work. I have tried deleting my preferences and it still will not work. Also
whenever I try to copy an object using the option key that doesn't work
either.
Please help.

The exact same thing happened to me one day and I could not figure it out. So I used the scale tool for a while and the next day, it was fine again. I use that key combination a lot... it was crippling.
How long has this been going on? I am looking for an answer for you. Can't find anything yet.
