Question
Mac Illus- ver.8-
I want to fill type(converted to paths) with a custom gradient.- but when I try, the O's and E's fill with the gradient too.  What's the solution?

Answer
Hi Tom.

When you convert to outlines, the letters will be grouped.

First, ungroup the main grouping.  Then select the O and its middle and choose Object > Compound Path > Make or hit Ctrl + 8.  Do this for the Es and other letters with donut holes.

Now they should fill correctly and individually!

Good luck

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
