Adobe Illustrator/Stop pixelating

Question
On typing text onto an illustrator v9 page I have saved it as an .eps and .ai imported into Quark Xpress v4. I have printed the Quark file and the text is pixelating and the only smooth edges that I can get are from the .eps/.ai file printed direct to the same Epson 890 printer from illustrator. What has happened?

Yours bewitched, bothered and bewildered.

Answer
Hi Beverley,
I'm going to think outloud on this one... oh my... I'm going to have to dig my Quark skills out of the closet on this one... hmmm...
How come you used Illustrator for the text and not Quark?
Well for some reason Quark is rasterizing the file.  Are there any other graphic components (vector art) in the file that has the same thing happen?
You could try this, in Illustrator select all text/type, then choose "create outlines" in the type pull down menu to eliminate a font issue.  Make sure you save this as a different file. Once you "create outlines" you will not be able to edit the type as you would normally since the type actually becomes a graphic not a font.
Are you Mac or PC?  It shouldn't make a difference but some commands are slightly different.
I await your answers then we can go from there.

Thank you,

Tom
