Question
I did some work at home on Illustrator CS2--however at work they only have Illustrator 10.  When i try to open the files at work; I get a message saying that the files cannot be open because the files were created on a newer version of Illustrator.  Is there any way i can open these files onto the version I have at work?

Answer
Hi Daniel

You can save down to Legacy format AI 10 from CS2 (Save as AI, then choose the version in the Save dialog) but any special effects/transparency/layers will be gone and the text will be all segmented and not easily editable. So in other words, although you'll be able to open the files, you won't be able to do much work on the files in v10.

Sorry I couldn't give you more positive news!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
