Question
Hi Amy, I am trying to create black text with a gray outline. How can I do this so that the original text is on one layer and the outline is on another layer so I can print them out as 2 seperate colors for silkscreen positives (films )?

What would be the easiest way?  When I tried to do this as a right click >arrange> send to current layer, I am not getting that option.

Please try to explain in detail like I was a kid because I am still learning Illustrator.

Thanks for your help in advance
Terry

Answer
Hi Terry,

I think you can do all the re-arranging to different layers using the Layers palette itself.

Create a new blank layer, Layer 2. Note where it shows up on the layers palette. Drag it to the top of the list.

On Layer 1, click on the path you want to move to a new layer. You will see that in the layers palette, a square appears next to the path that you've clicked so you know which item it is. Drag it by its name and drop it on top of "Layer 1."

That's all there is to it!

Good luck
