QUESTION: Hi Amy

I have been trying to get the trial version of CS3 for 4  days now. I am downloading it to my C Drive which has 3000 mb of Ram on it but after the files are unpacked it does a syatem check which tells me my system needs 512 mb or more spare. It takes 2 hours to download ( out in the depths of somerset ) and I have been up to god knows what time in the morning trying to sort it out . Please can you help ?

Andy

ANSWER: Hi Andy,

It seems to me that I read a problem like this on the Adobe forums but the search feature at adobe.com is down right now.
I will keep looking for an answer for you.

Obviously, you're on a Windows machine - are you running XP or Vista?

QUESTION: Good Morning Amy from a grey Somerset

I looked on the Adobe forum site and found a few questions which were not quite the same. I rang there technical help in the UK and he suggested it my be something to do with file pages and was going to send me an email with details. I havent recieved the email annd have not been able to contact them again. Me being a little bit adventurous ( i.e doing things I really know nothing about ) I reduced the page file which were set at min 1500 and Max 3000 to min 2 Max 300. Then I got the message not enough virtual memory. And I still get the same message on the system analysis that I need 512 MB. As you can imagine I then downloaded Illustrator 10 everything seemed OK but when I hit the try button (30 days trial ) the adobe screen with the women with flowing locks disappeared and that was that. I tried several times with the same result.

ANSWER: Hi Andy from a very dark and humid Madison, WI, US.

Have you tried booting up your computer in safe mode?

Then try the install...that might work.

I'd change the paging files back. Mine is 768-2500.
That's not it. You probably know that already =)

Make sure you have properly uninstalled any older Trials.

I guess there's a slight chance that it could really be the cache files.

There's also a chance that it is just an incompatibility between the app and your system - an installer bug.

Keep on Adobe tech support. Check your SPAM folder for their message.

QUESTION: Well its a hot sunny day here TShirt and Shorts. Seems a shame to be sitting here grinding my teeth. I've emptied the cache etc I did a seach of files and folders with CS3 in and deleted all. The only thing left is the installer bug. I've run SpyBot and Reg Manager and nothing has come up. I'm not being really stupid am I. If I check properties and it tells me I have 3GB spare on my C Drive That should mean plenty of space for the program shouldn't it ???

Time for a cold beer and a sit in the garden.

Answer
Hey Andy.

It's in the 80s here in Wisconsin, too. The fall leaves are turning but it's incredibly warm for this time of year - should be sweater weather by now.

Quick thought. When you run the installer, are you signed in as administrator of your machine?

I was poking around at adobe.com "trial issues" and came across that a few times.

It's either that, or the download didn't quite work. That's a large amount of time... a lot of data... easy for something to go wrong.

I wonder, would Adobe send you a copy on CD?

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
