Adobe Illustrator/converting illustrator cs file to illustrator 8 file

Question
Hi Amy,
I am using illustrator cs and I am trying to make a file compatible to illustrator version 8. I have been opening the file, clicking on export, and then choosing legacy ai. I click on save. However, when I hover over the newly created file it says that it was created in version 11. Also, when my friend does this same operation on his computer he gets the "8" icon by the new file. I still have the "cs" icon.
Help! Do I have an incorrect setting somewhere?
Thanks very much for your help,
Ruth

Answer
Hi Ruth.

Sorry this is so late - I moved this weekend (actually I am still moving... my mother is downstairs waiting for me) and forgot to mark myself as "on vacation" in allexperts settings.

I need to know if you're on a PC or Mac... and your friend?

Thanks, Ruth.

And sorry this wimpy response took so long.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
