Adobe Illustrator/export filters

Question
I am using Illustrator 8.0 on a Macintosh.

Just recently I tried to export a certain photoshop jpg. image which I had placed in Illustrator. I've never had any trouble before, but this time, I got a message which said, basically: "Cannot export file. No export filters."

The only possible clue I've got is that my copy of Illustrator had recently been removed from my Mac and then reinstalled. Of course, I've done this before with no problems...

I would be thankful if you can shed any light here.

Hi Bill.

I am so sorry I missed this question - it first came to my attention a few minutes ago.  I guess allexperts didn't send me an e-mail????

Anyway, you probably figured it out by now, but yes it's because of the reinstall. I believe you can fix it simply. Go to Edit>Preferences>Plug-Ins and Scratch Disks and "Re-Choose" where the Illustrator 8 folder lies on your Mac.

I'm not 100% sure that this option exists in 8, but I think it does. Another thing that might work is quitting AI8, locating the AIprefs file and throwing it in the trash, and then restarting AI8. Good luck and sorry for the delay!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
