Adobe Illustrator/Washed out colors in PDF

It all has to do with the way you import the image into Illustrator.  It seems if you literally copy the file and paste it in Illustrator the resulting .pdf is washed out.  I have Ill 10 and it seems to be extremely picky with importation and then conversion from .ai to .pdf.

As a test try right clicking on the image file you wish to import and choose 'Open With' and then 'Adobe Illustrator'.  The file should open in Illustrator as an un-washed out image.  If you save to .pdf it should be as clear as the Illustrator image.  This should be the problem solver.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
