Adobe Illustrator - font face

Expert: Michael Dymund - 8/2/2004

Question
Hello,

I'm B.tech Student of IT department.
At present I'm in final year. I am multimedia flavoured person. I want to do a Multimedia Project. I have decided to create my own font, which can be used in any word processor. Please guide me.

How to create font face?
like: Times new roman, Arial, Impact.
Can we create 'Font Faces' in Adobe Illustrator
and use it any word processing software?

Thanking you.

Answer
You can design a font in Illustrator, create the letterforms and such. But you can't produce a font file that will be recognized in an operating system from Illustrator.

From that you need Macromedia's Fontographer, or a similar font production application. In such an application you convert your designs into glyphs and build them into fonts. You can also design the font right in the application, using vector tools very similar to Illustrator's.
