Question
using a PC, I am unable to find my AIprefs (searched) and tried using the XP (Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe(this is the part that isn't there)\Adobe Illustrator 10. directions to locate, missing something.  I can not view my layers pallete.  I tried F7 and when I go to window and select "Layer" it won't pop up and the Layer option remains unchecked.

Answer
Hi Amanda,

Sounds like you may need to sign in as Administrator

Your folders are hiding documents. That's a setting for protecting PCs.

You need to go to the folder you mentioned:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\

And choose TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW (tab)>HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS>SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

Then you'll see another folder...
Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 10

I think you can also choose to show hidden files and folders when performing a search on your PC.

Hope this helped - you're right, by the way, the Layers menu will come back when you reset the prefs.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
