Adobe Illustrator/illustrator CS2 stuck in cyrillic text!
Expert: Amy - 10/15/2007
QuestionHi Amy,
I am using Illustrator CS2 on a PC Windows XP PLatform.
I recently changed the settings in Control Panel/Regional & Language Options from English to Russian to try and solve
a problem in MS Word due to the Cyrillic alphabet.
As it turns out, this wasn't the solution, so I changed it back to English (UK) again.
But the problem I now have is when I enter text in any illustrator document, it thinks my keyboard is using the cyrillic alphabet and I can't find any way of changing it!
The PC has been rebooted and all other programs seem to be OK.
Hope you can help.
Many thanks
Ian Emmington
AnswerGreetings Ian.
First try rebuilding the AI prefs files.
1) Quit AI
2) Locate the Adobe Illustrator Settings folder and move it to the desktop or drag it to the trash.
3) Restart AI. If this fixes the export issue, great! You can delete the copy of the folder that you dragged to the desktop.
4) If the problem still occurs, quit AI again and move that folder back to where it was. Over-write the new folder that has been created.
Then try this: Adobe builds and uses font cache lists that are stored on your machine. Occasionally, these lists need a little "refresh."
1) Quit Adobe Illustrator.
2) Locate and DELETE all files on your computer matching the naming convention adobefnt*.lst where * is a number. Make sure you ONLY delete files ending in .lst. If you use the computer's search/find file function to locate these files, make sure you check the option to search inside HIDDEN FOLDERS.
3) Restart Illustrator.
I hope one of these does the trick for you!
