Question
i installed my old adobe creative cs on a new macbook - version 10.4.10 and
i'm having issues with illustrator.  there are no tools, filters, effects or any of the
brushes and palettes. Help????

Answer
Hi Marie,

First check and make sure the Plug-Ins folders were installed when you installed Illustrator. I'm not sure of the location of this folder on a Mac, but you'll see it.

If the folder and all of the subfolders are there, you need to throw away the preferences file and restart Illustrator.

1 - Quit Illustrator
2 - Locate the AIprefs file and throw it away
3 - Restart Illustrator.

Depending on the version of Illustrator, you can also "target" the Plug-Ins folder in Preferences. You'll see a Plug-Ins and Scratch Disks tab in the Preferences dialog. Click the Choose button and target the proper folder. I honestly can't remember if CS is included in the versions that work that way.

Let me know!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
