Question -
i am trying to install the free trial for illustrator cs2, and towards the beginning, it asks for a serial number. i cannot find any serial number.

Answer -
Brandon,

you may be double clicking the wrong file.

When you double-click the exe file you downloaded, it will begin its extract process.

The files will be extracted to a folder. You then need to run Setup.exe from that new folder. You should not be prompted for a serial number.

Is that what you did?

Answer
It sounds like the file is not unzipped or it's damaged.

Try it from the beginning.

Locate the ~386MB file you downloaded. It's an archived folder, I believe. A folder with a vise icon. You can't open any of the files in it, they are just names of the archived files within the archived folder.

Right clicking that archive will bring up a few different options depending on what archiving software you've got installed on your PC. For example, you may see "unstuff using stuffit" or "extract to folder."

Choose one of those options and extract the contents of the archived folder to a new folder.

When it's done unstuffing, locate that NEW folder.

Locate the setup.exe file in that NEW folder and double click it.

That should start the Windows Installation Wizard. If doing that brings you to another extraction dialog, there's something wrong with the file.

Before downloading it again, I'd call customer support at Adobe and ask if there's anything they can do for you. It's a big download.
