Hi Amy.  I am working with Creative Suite 2.  My Illustrator tended to quit during
copy and paste.  I then found your suggestion with regard to closing the
appearances palette.  I have done this, but immediately following the Illustrator
suggested I had a serious error and I need to reinstall!  Do I simply reinstall CS2
by putting in the discs again?  Do I need to do any removals of existing
Illlustrator CS2.  Please give me guidance.

The reinstall process is #14.
Make sure you delete the Adobe Illustrator Settings folder before re-installing, too.

If I were you, I would briefly read through the list and see if any of the steps before 14 can help you!

The other things that aren't in there, that are specific to your actions when AI quits, are the clipboard format in Preferences (AICB, PDF) and the Appearances palette issue, which you already read when you found my old answer.
