Question
Hello,
I need to insert adobe illustrator documents into a large word report, and then pdf the whole word document. When I pdf the document though the adobe illustrator pictures came out blurry. I have inserted the illustrator documents as png, bmfs, emfs but nothing works. I also tried pdf-ing the illustrator picture, inserting that into word, but when I have to pdf the word document, they came out hazy. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Martine

Answer
Hi Martine,

You probably shouldn't be inserting Illustrator graphics as pngs or jpegs, because you are compromising the clarity. Instead you should opt for the PDF method you were using. Save the Illustrator graphics as PDFs with NO COMPRESSION.

Ideally, if the Illustrator graphics are vector graphics, you should generate EPS files to insert into Word but some people don't have the correct Word filters to be able to do that.

Then, when you are PDFing the word doc, make sure you're not using too much compression on the images.

That should work better for you!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
