Adobe Illustrator/Too many printers
Expert: Amy - 10/10/2006
QuestionHi Amy,
Thanks for your quick response, but the problem still exists. In the printer setup utility, I chose only printers I need and nothing else appears. However, when I open an illustrator file and go to file -> print, I see so many other printers. Lately, I discovered that all these printers match with printers the machine sees under printer setup utility\Default Browse. I want Illustrator to show only printers I added to the machine. Any ideas?

I have a problem with Illustrator CS running on Mac OS X v.4. When I go to File > Print, I see all printers that machine can see on the network. Since some printers are accessible through different protocols such as PCL and PostScript, these machines appear more than one time. How can I fix this?

Hi Hiro,
I haven't worked on a Mac in a long time but I'd have to guess that deleting the drivers you don't want will delete the printer from your available selections.
Delete a printer if you use Print Center

Delete a printer if you don't use Print Center

Above are two articles you may want to read. I think the second one includes the instructions you want!
Good luck!

AnswerOh I see, Illustrator sees all the printers, even if you delete them from your system or don't have them set up. That is pretty strange.
On a PC, I'd be able to pick and choose my visible printers on a system level and Illustrator follows right along. I guess that doesn't work on a Mac. Maybe that was one of the reasons Apple created that PrintCenter but as I said before, I haven't used a Mac in a couple years.
There is a good possibility that this is a question for your network administrator. I had a similar situation when I was in a Macintosh university environment. No matter what I tried, I saw all the printers on our network, which was something like 200. But once I set my default printer, I was fine because the setting "stuck."
I went to Adobe.com to see if there is any technical documents on that issue but found nothing. I also looked at the google mac illustrator group and found nothing there either.
