Question
QUESTION: so i have made some labels for one of my graphic design classes.. i have to hand in 72dpi online to a prof.. and have to print an (at least) 300dpi for the bottles i have to put them on... but i can't figure out how to go from 72dpi to 300 and vise versa.. i know i should start at 300 dpi, and then bring it down to 72 - but i have no idea how to do either! i need help ASAP please!! i did them in (i think..) a 72dpi thing - and attempted to print them and it was crap. almost blurry and just bad quality, so i need to fix this. i have to hand these in right away so hopefulyl you can get back to me soon!!! :D thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Hi Jill,

Are you working with Illustrator - you didn't specify.

What format do they want? A 72dpi jpeg or gif for online and a tiff? or EPS? for print?

QUESTION: yes sorry i would have replied yesterday but it wouldn't let me..  and yes illustrator, and its got to be a jpeg file. more for my benifit becuase i don't have a printer on my laptop (mac book) so i have to email it to myself and go onto my parents computer to print it.. and they don't have illustrator or photoshop or anything on their comp.. its a real hassle. haha   it could be a gif too, but jpeg is better for me.

Answer
Okay Jill,

Open the file in Illustrator and use the File > Export to generate your Jpegs.

For the 72 dpi jpeg, choose:
quality: 10
Color Model: RGB
Method: Baseline
Resolution: Screen
Anti-Alias: Yes
Embed Profile; No

For the 300 dpi jpeg, choose:
quality: 10
Color Model CMYK
Method: Baseline
Resolution: High
Anti-Alias: Yes
Embed Profile: Yes

That's all there is to it.

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
