Adobe Illustrator/printing seperations with Illustrator CS

Question
I read your answer to a previous question of this sort and I downloaded the
PostScript Driver from Adobe, but the problem is that that driver needs OS9 to
run and I have 10.4!  I am at my wits end on how to get the Seperation Setup to
become available.  I need to do color seperations for screen printing.  Any help
would be greatly appreciated

Answer
Hi Josh,

You aren't going to be able to print the separations unless you actually have a postscript printer.

Having a PPD and driver just fools Illustrator into thinking you have a postscript printer until you actually go to print - then it will realize that your inkjet isn't postscript capable.

If you're going to be doing a lot of t-shirt design, you might want to consider getting your hands on Acrobat Professional with Distiller. That way, you can print seps to Adobe PDF and then print the resulting PDF file to your inkjet.

If I assumed incorrectly that you do not have a postscript printer, check out this page and maybe a driver here will help you!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
