Adobe Illustrator/Cannot view linked images

Question
Hi, I have been given an Illustrator eps file to update. I am working in Illustrator CS2 on PC. In the main document there are two linked eps files (I have those) but I cannot preview them in the main document. When I create a print-ready pdf it looks how it should, so the links are good. I embedded one of the linked images as a test and once it was embedded I could see it. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help!

Answer
Hi Christine,

Try two things:

Go Preferences > File Handling and Clipboard and see if changing or toggling the Linked image option there does anything for you.

Otherwise, I suppose that the EPS files that are linked could have been saved without previews (but how'd they preview when you embedded them, then?) or maybe the previews are bad. If they are PhotoShop EPS files, you could open and re-save them with previews!

Let me know if that helps you out!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
