Adobe InDesign/formatting issues
Expert: Glen Demers - 10/24/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I have to re-format a 196 page document from 8.5x11 to 5.5x8.5. How do I do that? When I shrunk the page to half of legal size (which isn't exactly the size I want, but couldn't find another option) the text doesn't shrink to fit into the text box. How do I resize the page and get the text to fit within it?
Thanks,
Adolfo
ANSWER: Hi Adolfo,
You can set the page size under File>Documnet Setup or Layout by typing in the width and height you want. Once the page is reduced you'll have to reduce the size of the type or add more pages to get the text to fit. If styles have been used this would be the best place to change the size of the type. You'll have to go through the document page by page and re-format each page.
An easier way would be to export the document as pdf, then place the pdf pages in a new 5.5 x 8.5 document reduced in size.
Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Glenn,
thank you so much for your help! I'd already exported the document to PDF, but don't know how to "place the pages in a new 5.5 x 8.5 document reduced in size". How is that done? Also, does your company print books for small publishing companies? Like runs of 1000, for example? Thanks again for your time.
Sincerely,
Adolfo
AnswerAdolfo,
I would create a new document with a frame on each page to hold the pdf. Then using the place command, place all the pages in the existing frames and go to Object>Fitting and select a fitting option. This is far easier than placing the pdf's at 100% and resizing each one.
Yes we do print books see this link:
