Adobe InDesign/grayscale images print darker in InDesign

QuestionHi,
I write a newsletter that is black/white with a spot color. I use PhotoShop to convert color photos to grayscale and correct the skintone % to those my printer mentioned, but when the photos are placed into Indesign, they are darker. And the end result is that my newsletters come out with photos that look murky. I'm using the Windows platform. Can you suggest a solution to this problem? Thanks so much.
Answerhi,
make sure that when you are editing you photos, they are in CMYK mode and not RGB mode.
and don't save them as something else - keep them as .psd. I know others will tell you otherwise, but I find this just easier and the quality is kept better.
It seems like you've done this, but just to make sure: Remember that Indesign shows you a bad quality because it's layout program. Not a photoediting program. Go with the .pdf that you export.
