Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I want to use font: ITC Ronda.  I have installed it on my computer and it shows up in all my other packages e.g. photoshop, but I can't get it to appear in the font list in In-Design.  Also when I open the In-Design file from the graphic designer that uses ITC Ronda it says it doesn't recogise the font!  Help!  The version I have of ITC Ronda is a True Type.  Big thanks, Carolyn

ANSWER: Hi Carolyn,

Are you using a Mac or PC?

Are you installing the font using a font manager such as Suitcase or Linotype FontXplorer, or are you just using the systems font folder?

QUESTION: Hi Ken,

Many thanks for picking up my questions.  This is the first time I have used this website and I am very grateful.

I am using a PC
I installed the font just using the systems font folder.
I think the font must have installed correctly as I can use ITC Ronda now in Fireworks, Photoshop, Powerpoint, Word etc.. - just not InDesign!

Answer
Hi Carolyn,

I had this problem before myself when using the system font folder. It only did it with certain fonts and occasionally it would clear up after restarting, but, ultimately I had to start using a font manager because software like Indesign does not readily update its font list from the system folder without restarting and if there are too many fonts in the folder it will have issues listing them.

I use Linotype FontXplorer which is available free from Linotypes website. It enables you to turn on and off fonts when you need to use them instead of having the system do it which can lead to corrupt fonts eventually.

Try using something like that and Indesign should begin to recognize the font regularly.

Thanks,

Ken Black
