About Sharon MacGregor Expertise I use Indesign on a daily basis for work, and at home in my more creative ventures. I can answer pretty much any type of question relating to production, design, page layout, and new features of CS3. I work on a PC (yes I know that is rare), so I am more familiar with the PC commands than mac, but I know that more often than not, the Ctril button on the PC is the same as the command button on the Mac, so they are the same!
Experience I've been working in this field since 1988. Started out when they were still doing pasteup and using a wax machine :) Have worked on both Mac and PC on several programs, but my present employer uses PCs and I bought a PC for home so I could work at home. Right now, I work on educational/technical textbooks. I have experience with magazines, newspapers, corporate identity, page layout, and general design.
Education/Credentials I have a BA in psychology with a minor in art, and am working towards an MA in Learning and technology integration (using computers to teach).
Question I could only wrap text around my first picture, using the 'detect edges' and right I inserted. It now won't work on any subsequent placed pic. I followed all of the instructions listed below, but not one worked. I thought it was because I darkened the sky in one pic, and thought the mountain side edge wasn't as defined to 'detect edges' but I placed another pic with clear edges, and performed the wrap options, but nothing.
Any help is appreciated. Lisa
Info from Experts that I tried.
First of all, it could be that you have Text Wrap Only Effects Text Beneath turned on in the preferences menu under the Composition tab. I believe it's turned off by default, but with a lot of people who've used QuarkXPress, they're used to this preference being turned on. If it is on, anything that is below the text will not be effected by the wrap. If this is the case, uncheck the box in the preferences and hopefully that works.
If that isn't the case, it could be that you've put the wrap on the image rather than the box containing the image. In this case, I would make sure to select the box with the Selection tool (the black arrow) and then select text wrap.
The only other thing I can think might effect it is the text box options. For the ones not wrapping, select the text box (not the text) and choose Object > Text Frame Options and see if the Ignore Text Wrap option is selected. When this is on, it will (obviously) ignore the wrap of any object near it.
Hope this helps, let me know if there's anything else I can do. Thanks!
Answer Sorry I accidently clicked on an option and didn't answer your question.
I usually am not satisfied with the "detect edges" option, it usually does a sloppy job, and also doesn't always work. If you have the photoshop images, I would create clipping paths for them. Then instead of selecting detect edges, select "photoshop path".
As for why only the first one works and the rest don't, the steps I'd follow would be the ones that were already suggested - I can't think of anything additionaly except to check the memory on your computer. Sometimes indesign does crazy things when the computer is running out of memory, or you are working with really huge photos (memory wise). Sorry I can't be of more help!
