Question QUESTION: Hi James. I usually try to figure these things out on my own but, oh boy. I'm
sure there is s a simple answer, it seems like such a simple obvious thing that
I'm overlooking.
My folios are set on master pages. I'd like the full bleed background color
that I've applied to various document pages to sit BEHIND the folio. But,
unless I override the folio on the master page, the background hides the
folio. Same with full-bleed photos. Doing so breaks the folio from the master
page.
However, if I over the course of the project I want to make the folio smaller or
change the font, the folio that I applied the override to won't accept that
change.
All I want to do is have my folios rest IN FRONT of my full bleeds.
Help?
ANSWER: Tracy,
My suggestion is to use layers. Make a new layer called "folios" and put all of your folio's on that layer. Now make sure that layer is at the top of the stacking order in the layers panel. Now your folio will always be at the top. If you want anything else to always be at the top, make sure it is on its own layer about everything else.

QUESTION: Thanks! This will work certainly, but again, if I need to create a reversal of that folio, coming out of a dark background, I need to release the folio to the page thereby breaking it with the master page. Someone in-house asked where we might send requests like this to the Indesign folks in the updates/fix departments.
Answer IF you break the link to the master, it will still be on top because it is on its own layer. You can always make another master page with the text as paper to create the knockout effect too.
as for the link. here it is. Just request the feature that you want. FYI the feature set for cs4 is probably already set, but they will consider it for cs5 and beyond.
