Subject: InDesign lock file

Question
QUESTION: We have one user when she creates or pulls a document into InDesign, the lock file is there and then she closes it goes away but when she gets back into InDesign, before InDesign is done starting up, the lock file comes back to the last document opened and give a memory error and never will let you pull the document up. And it doesn't matter what machine she is on. Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Renee,

The locked file document is the autosave from a document that was previously open when InDesign was forced quit at some point. When you are trying to open ID you should get the option to choose yes, no or cancel if you want to open the recovery data. Choose cancel and it will delete the temp file.

If this isn't working, you can always reset your preferences.

Launch ID, and it is starting up.

On a PC hold down Control, ALT, and Shift until a window pops up asking you to delete your prefs. Click yes.

On a Mac hold down Command, Control, Option, and Shift until a window pops up asking you to delete your prefs. Click yes.

QUESTION: Thanks for the tip, but alas it did not make a difference. I get a Application Error with The instruction at "0x49784a9e" referenced memory at 0x00000000".  The memory could not be "read"    This happens a number times, no matter what machine she is using.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
R

ANSWER: It doesn't matter which machine she is using?
Does this effect everybody in the office?
Which version of ID are you using and what operating system?
(IN CS3 5.0.2, Mac 10.4.11 for example)

You may need to patch your ID or your os to the latest versions as well.

QUESTION: It doesn't matter what machine she uses and it only effect her.  CS2 is the version and she uses it in a lab with XP and also a terminal server built Server 2003 R2.  You see my problem.  I have deleted this individuals profile from the terminal server and it still does this.  Others can pull in her documents and have no problem.  It is just her. I've even though it was just her user account, but it's no different than anyone elses.  I would love to have any suggestions.

Answer
Well, you have officially stumped me. If you have deleted her account and she has created a new one and you are still having this issue, you may need to talk to Adobe or Microsoft about this problem. I have not heard about this issue before

You can try running software update for InDesign (help menu > check for update). For CS2, the latest version is 4.0.5.

I wish you the best of luck and I apologize that I am not able to help you further.
