Subject: InDesign master pages

Question
Okay this is going to be long and i hope makes sense. I can send the
document to better understand if it helps. I have a document that has several
master pages. When I go to move my pages or number them using the
"numbering sections option" it is reapplying the master page when it moves
to its new location. For example I have built an magazine section intro pg
master using facing pages that can be used as a left or right read opener
depending which side you drag down. So lets say I drag down the right side
master because it is a right read opener and place all my new text and
images. Now pages in the magazine have shifted so this has to become a left
read pg. Well when i assign the new page number and it moves to the left it is
having the left pg master items applied to it on top of the images and text I
already placed. Any idea how to tell not to apply these items.

Answer
Chris,

It sounds like you have two different things going on, pages moving incorrectly and master page items being applied incorrectly. I hope my answers help you out.

You can prevent ID from moving pages around. Select the range of pages you are interested in and choose from the pages panel menu "allow selected pages to shuffle". When you choose this, ID will no longer let them shuffle, which means they stay were they are.

Unfortunately, you can't really prevent some masterpage items from changing and not others if you are apply a new master page to a document. You may be better off making a new master page with just the items that you want to update.

Fritz
