Adobe InDesign/Illustrator to InDesign

Question
I've been trying to convert an illustrator to InDesign because the mail merge
program I use (Creo Darwin) will only recognize .indd files.  Unfortunately, I
can't find the file type needed for conversion.  I've seen on here several times
that C&Ping the Illustrator information into InDesign should work, but every
time I try it crashes InDesign.  I really need to get this project done for a
client and would appreciate the help.
Thank you!

Answer
Adgee,

Illustrator and InDesign are two different programs. If you are trying to recreate your illustrator file as an ID file you will probably have to start over from scratch. You can copy and paste a few elements here and there, but you will have to redo all of your text formating and picture placement.

You can save illustrator files and place them inside ID if you like, but they will only be treated as images and they will not be editable.
