Adobe InDesign/InDesign Page Sizes

Question
Hi Ken.  I'm very familiar with all the programs of Creative Suite (I'm a graphic design student), but a new project has me stumped.  I'm working on a desk calendar for a museum.  The outside cover is 5.75" x 8.25".  The inside pages are 5.5" x 8.25", except for 12 monthly pages that have extender tabs that stick out an extra 1/4 ".  My printer says that I need to use only one document...but how do I change the sizes of individual pages?  Is there a good way to set up my calendar document?

Answer
Hi Jessica.

You will need to create two separate documents for this. You will be able to assemble it into one document for the printer, one of two ways.

You could make each document and create a pdf of each, then combine the two pdf files into one to send.

or

Once you have created the two documents, create a book from Indesign.
File-> New-> Book...
You should see a palette named Book open in Indesign. Click the option arrow on the palette and select add document. Repeat this until you have all the documents you need. Now you can Package the entire book under the option arrow again, or you can also make a pdf that will have all the pages together. You should consult the printer as to what settings they will require in a pdf for reproduction. You can also find proper settings for a high resolution pdf here - www.bestprintingonline.com/submitting-pdf.htm

Let me know how things turned out for you.

Thanks,
