Question
QUESTION: Hello!

I need to create a book cover spine of 7/16 of an inch. How do I do this?

Thanks!
Kate

ANSWER: Kate,

There are two different ways to handle this. you can just create a new document that is 7/16" wide by whatever it had to be tall and then put your info on it.

Or you can just make one file that is the width of the cover, back, and spine. Then use guides to mark where each section would be. Now you can layout the entire book jacket as one file. This is the preferred method.

QUESTION: I have an existing document that has a two-sheet spread. I'm using the inside margins as the spine cover. If the existing document is 44p7.5 x 58p8.632... how do I create a spine within these dimensions that is 7/16?

Answer
you can create a new document and you will have to do a little math.

44p7.5 X2 + 7/16 in = 15.3125 in

Make a new document that is 15.3125 in x 58p8.632.

Now put a guide that is exactly at 7.4375 in (which is 44p7.5) and then another one 7/16 over from that.

Now go back to your old document and copy and paste everything over into this new cover.
